Weekend Review

We had a fun weekend filled with lots of  family and friend time!

Before our friends came over for dinner I had to fold all this laundry that was covering our dining room table... Am I the only one who does this? I'd rather clean the toilets then fold and put away laundry.
\The kids waiting on our friends.
I made peanut butter cookies for our dinner party. These are the best cookies ever.
Whitney babysat for us.
Sunday we had church. When we picked Lucy up from class they said she wasn't feeling well. She even came home and took a nap. Today I brought both kids to the doctor and thankfully they both have allergy/sinus issues.

Weekend Review

Friday the Kids got up and got dressed. Lucy for school and Henry to go to church with me.
My new date pants. I love these pants. They are just like sweat pants but fabulous enough to wear on a sushi date. This was before the skunk incident. (After de-skunking the dog I put these back on and we did indeed go for sushi)
After we de-skunked the house we watched the kids play on the swing set. Lucy had a soccer game earlier that morning. The kids were exhausted and were in bed by 5:30. Which is pretty normal for a weeknight but not the weekend.
I finally put my Christmas cards on a binder ring to have all of them together. I put them in my bible bag and plan to pray over all our family and friends throughout the year.

How to De-skunk your dog and house.

I think the title of this post speaks for itself. Our dogs were sprayed by a skunk. Whitney took a direct hit to the face and Autumn tried to kiss the thing.

Friday night, my mom picked up the kids so Jonathan and I could have a date night. Jonathan got home early, he shaved, we got dressed, I wore my new date pants, and we were ready to go meet some friends. I went to the den to find my purse and I was greeted at the dog gate by Whitney. She was foaming at the mouth, nasty green foam. Then I smelt it. The smell of burnt tire. The smell of a skunk on fire. I started yelling and Jonathan came running into the den. I made him search the house for this skunk. I just knew it was in the house because of the smell. Thankfully it wasn't in the house. Autumn had chased it under my new patio set. We made the dogs come inside, put the dog door in and the skunk came out. Before he disappeared he  tried to come in our dog door!!

The strangest part about this story is that we live in the middle of our neighborhood, in the center of the street, with two giant dogs in our backyard. Why would it pick our house? Also, I kept yelling for Jonathan to shoot it (because I grew up on a farm in Arkansas and if you didn't like something you shot it, the end), He told me I was crazy you can't shoot things in a neighborhood with a shot gun, I told him it was Texas we can shoot whatever we want. Apparently there are laws but don't break in my house or I'll shoot you, the end. Back to the skunk.

I'm 99% sure Whitney was hanging half way out the dog door and half way in the house when it sprayed her. Our backdoor smells terrible as does our breakfast room and of course the dog.

So the point of this story is to tell you how to remove the skunk smell from the dog and then your house.

Dog: Immediately put on some old clothes and find some gloves. Mix 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 2 teaspoons of dawn (or whatever liquid soap you use). Wash the dog with an old cloth or sponge with the mixture. Let it foam up and sit for 4-5 min. The longer the better! After that time rinse your dog. I bathed the dogs immediately after in their lavender dog shampoo. Make sure not to get either mixture in their eyes. This got rid of the smell immediately, except for Whitney face but I was trying to avoid her eyes. (source)

House: Option 1- Heat the oven to 250. Put a cup of coffee grounds on a cookie sheet and bake for 5-10 minutes with the door open.

Option 2- This works the best. Open all your windows and turn on the fan. Mix Vinegar (I used a gallon), a cut up apple (I used two) and 4-5 tablespoons of Cinnamon. Bring to a boil on the stove. When it boils divide into smaller bowls and put in each room affected by smell. It should be steaming. I left mine all day. It seemed to remove a lot of the odor. But of course the best remedy is time and air.

That's it. That's all I know. I hope we are never skunked again.

Sick Day

My sweet little Lucy had a sick day today. I know she is sick when she asks to take a nap.
The plus side is I got to spend extra time with this sweet boy!
He was excited to spend extra time with his sisters toys. This boy will push anything...

This week in Pictures.

We attended The Huffman Birthday Party on Tuesday. The kids had a blast. I love a jump house birthday party.
Lucy ready for school.
She wanted me to take a picture of her backpack and her brother.
We ran to the mall to pick up the kids backpacks I had ordered. FYI: Pottery Barn's backpacks were more than half off last week. They might still be. We stopped by the Disney store and the kids needed their picture taken.

Northwest Arkansas Trip

We spent the past weekend in Northwest Arkansas visiting my sister and her family! It was fun to visit the town that I grew up in but it was a lot more fun playing with my sister and her many children!

Lucy before we left matching her Saige Doll.
On The Road.
I tell people I miss the trees and hills the most about Arkansas.
Reunited and it feels so good!
We went to the U of A to find our names and have the kids pictures made with them on senior walk but we made it to Old Main and decided it was way to cold to be out!
Swimming back at the Hotel.
The Russell's stopped by and Henry got to see his buddy Wyatt.
Wyatt and Henry go way back! They were each other's first play date.
Lila Coble came by to say goodbye.
My kids really enjoy hotel living but they were ready to come home.
