Friday Favorites: Serving, Cookies, Boutique Clothing Sale, Playroom Tour and Bible Study.

This weeks favorites include serving our local community helpers, cleaning out my kids closets and selling all their old boutique clothes, a tour of our playroom and media room and an invitation to our upcoming bible study.

{one} Serving our Community Helpers. This idea was sparked by the recent police shootings. After the recent shootings a friend suggested we go to the police station with a batch of baked goods- 1. to show them that we support them and appreciate them. 2. to show our kids 1.how to serve. 2. who the good guys are. It was so sweet to see our kids march into the police station (parade style) holding baked goods and a a sign that read #webacktheblue, especially after a horrific week in Dallas.

The officer was so sweet to show the kids all of his gadgets on his belt. The kids mostly wanted to see his gun but he wasn't allowed to pull it out so they were a little disappointed. We wanted him to give the kids a tour of the holding tank and give a life lesson on -This is where you go if you don't listen to your mama speech. It didn't happen...

After the police station I knew I wanted to take the kids to our fire station to Thank our Firemen who keep rescuing daddy.. You know the ones who Seizure Jonathan tries to fight. So, we baked another batch of cookies and gathered our friends and headed to our fire station yesterday.

Our firemen were so sweet to Let us in and let us say thank you for serving the community and then to give our group a tour of the fire station and trucks! The kids were super excited to explore the trucks and ask the firemen questions! They thought it was pretty cool that they had an ax in the truck and ice-cream in the freezer.

I had practiced in my mind what I would say to these guys to thank them for saving Jonathan and every time I would practice I would start to tear up and make an ugly crying face... So, I didn't thank them specifically for their service to my family. One guy did ask me specifically if we were going to all of the fire stations and I said ,"No, just this one. This station is really special to my family because you saved my husband. Twice. And he tried to fight y'all"... and then really quickly I added, "You guys really are my heroes." and then I stopped before I cried and I told him that and that I couldn't share with the others because I would ugly cry... and I made him really uncomfortable with my semi-ugly,crying face.
This is something easy to do with your kids. Everyone has a fire station and every one has a police station. Let's teach our kids how to serve the people who serve us!

{two} Peanut Butter and M&M's cookies.
These are the bomb.com. We took these to the fire department and police station and I made extra for home. My kids rise up and call me bless and Jonathan sings my praises... They totally Proverbs 31:28 me...

 {three} Boutique Clothes Sale
My sister and I have started an Instagram page where we are going to sell our kids clothes. I have a huge selection of girls Matilda Jane size 8 I am about to list. You can follow Here! We plan to start posting things next week. Please like the page and share with your friends!

Wesley was my helper yesterday while I pulled out all of this stuff!

{four} playroom and media room tour.
I'm linking up with Kelly's Korner to show our playroom and media room. I meant to show pictures when it was clean on Wednesday but my kids got a hold of it before I could snap a picture. So, welcome to real life!

I ran upstairs to snap a picture and found my kids asleep in the playroom as well. Unfortunately I woke them up at 6:15 and they weren't interested in going back to bed.

Our media room is probably Jonathan's favorite room in the house. We enjoy family movie night in here and J plays his Nintendo games here as well. This room is composed of all our old furniture and tv...

{five} bible study.
Our church just posted this year's bible study on their website. I'm super excited to study Romans with a group of Jesus loving women. We are going to spend an entire year studying one Book! I love how we dissect every verse.

{six} watermelon slicing
I posted this yesterday and I think it is the greatest trick ever especially if you love watermelon!

That's it. All I know.

God is bigger than this and Jesus Can fix-it.

PSA: Mess Free Watermelon Slicing

Maybe you already know this. Maybe you don't. Maybe you don't care. But since you are here and I have your attention, I'm going to teach you a mess free way to slice a watermelon!

Watermelon is my favorite but I hate cutting it because it is so messy. My sister came over and sliced a watermelon this way and she learned it from her sister (who's actually my sister too) and she learned it from unknown sources (probably the internet).

I'm about to blow your mind.

Start with the watermelon like shown.

Cut the end off of the watermelon.

Stand the watermelon up on its cut end.

Peel the watermelon with your knife.

Peel until all the green rind has been removed.

Cut the top off and you are left with the perfect watermelon to slice any way you choose!
Next, write me a thank you note.

How do you slice a watermelon?

Thrifty Finds

So, I've been doing a little second hand shopping! Second hand shopping is hit or miss. The secret to being successful at it and scoring good deals is to go often. Not twice a day often but maybe once a week. I run into my favorite store at least once a week just to peruse the aisles to see if there are any new treasures.  Summer time is a great time to go because all the moms are cleaning out closets and playrooms!

Here are a few of my favorite finds:

Bakers Jelly Wedges.

Lily Pulitzer mom shorts + nwt talbots

Lily Pulitzer capri and shirt

Matilda Jane Top and Skirt

Cartigans! Two are Anthropolgie

Anthro top and Matilda Jane top.

Ivy Jane capri. Super cute on.

Gap maxi. I can't tell if this is a skirt or a strapless dress. I wear as both...

Clothes Mentor was having 70% off clearance. I stocked up on some new jackets for less than $8 each.

 Club Monaco classic jacket.

Those are my latest finds. Did you know I love love a good find! My friends tease me that my catch phrase is "I got it from Frisco Resale!" .

Weekend Review: Lucy's 8th Birthday and more!

We celebrated Lucy's 8th birthday on Saturday! I can't believe my little newborn, colicky baby is 8 years old! My how time flies. When she was born and I realized that she cried a lot, I was 95% sure I birthed an A-hole. I'm happy to say that she is the finest child that I've ever met. Full of personality, joy, empathy towards others, people pleaser, funny, good friend and she loves Jesus. (She's an elementary school evangelist as well) Every age is my favorite with this child but 8 is the bomb.com! Here's a few pictures from our weekend + last weekend.

I took dinner to a friend who has a new baby and then got to hold the lovie. I don't miss the baby days but man babies are so sweet!

Last week we saw the secret life of pets. My favorite part was during a fight scene, Henry stood on top of his chair and started throwing punches and cheering on the violence...

Lucy can't decide if she is a little girl or a big kid... She loves to snuggle and be rubbed on!

Saturday, Lucy and I got dressed up and went on a girls date. Our first stop was the nail salon for a mani/pedi.

Kendra Scott gives a birthday discount to all of its costumers. Since Lucy and I both have July birthdays we took advantage of our 50% off discount.

After girl's day, we went back home to get ready for Lucy's family party. She requested homemade lasagna and icecream cake.

Love this sweet girl.

I took this picture and realized it looked like we were advertising for the container store. We were not...

I made this kid wait all day to open her presents.

Showing off her new jewelry.

The Birthday girl received a lot of shopkins! I don't get shopkins but she loves them!

Sunday we stayed home from church to let Daddy sleep. This chemo week has been rough. The kids enjoyed resting and playing at home with mama.
Wesley enjoyed resting.

Then we did some drawlering- Drawing+Coloring (Henry speak)

Lucy's new art box from her birthday!

That's it. That was our weekend!
Come back tomorrow fora look at my Thrifty Finds!
