Mommy Blunders

A couple of stories to help moms through their week! You are doing great!

1. Henry is to the age where he can do a lot himself. It is freeing knowing that I don't have to do all the things for him anymore. I've been giving him responsibilities and he loves having a job. The other day I said, "Grab your backpack and let's go to the car." Once we were in the car, I asked him to "Buckle up". So 1. He can carry his stuff. 2. He can buckle his own seat belt!! He even fixed his own cereal ziplock.

As we drove to school I felt like the best mom ever. I had trained my child! He was going to be a functioning human! I even started writing this collin county mom blog post in my head, maybe a letter to new moms giving them hope of things to come! I was obviously a superior mom...

As we drove up to the carpool line, I looked at Henry and said, "I hope you have a great day!, Your lunch, jacket, and homework is in your backpack!" To which he replied, "mom? Where is my backpack? Hmm... you brought it to the car, remember? I asked you to, and I'm a superior mom so of course you followed directions. "I for-grot to get it mom..."

So, I drove 20 minutes back home, 20 minutes back to school to give him his backpack and 20 minutes back home to start my day...  If his lunch wasn't in it, I'd say Sorry, buddy, better luck next time....

I'm not a superior mom, just a mom trying her best... (sometimes just going through the motions...)

2. The muffins.

Henry and I made muffins the other day. I wanted a healthy afternoon snack in the house and to send in the kid's school boxes. Pinterest raved about these muffins. Henry and I got to work. We had the best time in the kitchen, working and talking together. I enjoyed him, He enjoyed me. I felt great because 1. I was spending quality time with my kid 2. We were making a Pinterest great recipe. 3. The light was perfect to take a picture to show others on social media that I was a better mom with them with all the homemade healthy recipes and quality time... (That is a joke, but I was going to share my recipe...)

After one bite of these muffins, we discovered they were the worst muffins in the world. InEdible. We fed them to the ducks the next day and the ducks wouldn't even eat them! Either it was a bad recipe or we forgot the sugar...

3. Henry is addicted to saying Booty-Crack... Which has replaced Poop as his potty word! He even has a booty-crack dance which involves pulling apart of the cheeks and swinging his hips...

4. I was trying to make homework time easier the other day. So as Lucy walked in the door from school, she was greeted with a snack plate and drink and her homework! All she had to do was sit, eat and work. Well, getting her to sit was the hardest part...

5. I took an hour nap yesterday while Henry played his tablet... I'm not the most productive mommy...

6. We met some friends at the park. The kids played and we watched. One of the kids came and said he was called a baby and a 3-year-old. (He's 5, so that is a big insult...) Well, that is just bad behavior! What's wrong with kids today? Turns out it was Henry... At least he didn't call him a booty-crack....

Do you have any Mommy Blunders from the week?

God is bigger than this and Jesus Can fix it.
