Lather up, ladies!

Gone are the days where I grease my body in tanning oil and bake in the sunshine... If you see a lady wearing a long sleeved rash guard with a wide-brimmed hat and smells of SPF 50- DON"T BE ALARMED! It's just ME! I'm sharing my favorite summer skincare products below!

Sunscreens

My dermatologist told me out the Elta Brand of sunscreen and I have been using it for two years. I use the tinted sunscreen everyday under my makeup, it doesn't feel or smell like sunscreen either.

My dermatologist also told me that people don't wear enough sunscreen. You are supposed to wear 1 oz. (imagine a shot glass) of sunscreen every 2 hours.

The American Academy of Dermatology also recommends the following-

  • Apply sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes BEFORE going outdoors.
  • Skin cancer also can form on the lips. To protect your lips, apply a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours, or after swimming or sweating, according to the directions on the bottle.

  • (The Neutrogena was also recommended by my dermatologist...)

I don't recommend spray sunscreen because we aren't using enough to protect our skin for the recommended time period.  The FDA continues to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of spray sunscreens. The challenge in using sprays is that it is difficult to know if you have used enough sunscreen to cover all sun-exposed areas of the body, which may result in inadequate coverage.

    Don't forget your lips!

    Hair Protection

One of the best things we can do for our hair/face is to cover it up. I wear a hat whenever I go outside! My pool bag holds two hats, each for different sitting situations. (I'm being serious) I have a bonnet style hat for reclining in a pool chair and a wide brimmed hat for chair sitting...

My hair dresser just told me about this product and I'm excited to try it out! It has an spf for your scalp and a shield for your hair color.

    Cover Up

It's best to stay covered. I wear layers to the pool, usually a bikini top and bottoms and then when I feel like I'm getting too much sun I will throw on a long sleeved rash guard. It doesn't make me hot and it doesn't let me burn!
