After Surgery Update...

(I made him take this back to work picture...)

Two weeks after brain surgery and this guy is back to work! Yesterday he got his stitches out and was cleared to drive.

We also received his pathology report. We were told before surgery that the new tumor was very aggressive and most likely glioblastoma. Yesterday we were told that it is still grade 3 astrocytoma, which is great news for bad news.

The past month I've struggled with letting God be God. Knowing he can fix this but believing he won't. And then I realized that I'm not promised an easy life, but because of Jesus, I'm promised heaven. And that is enough for me.

God Is Bigger Than This...

The Follow Up...

Two Weeks Ago Jonathan had his follow-up appointment from this past May. In May we received inconclusive results. Meaning- there was a spot but no idea what it was. Unfortunately, the only way to get results was to wait three months to see if the spot grew or stayed the same. So we tried to enjoy our summer and to wait well.

So we waited. Until Two Weeks Ago. I dropped the kids off at school and et Jonathan downtown for his appointment. After an MRI and 3 hours, we finally had some answers.

Unfortunately, our answers were the worst case scenario... The Spot Grew.

Jonathan will undergo another Surgery on Tuesday, September 4.

Prayer Request
1. Successful Surgery. They remove as much tumor as they can without damaging anything.
2. Recovery is quick and uneventful.
3. The next steps after surgery- chemo, focused radiation, trials...
4. That we glorify God through this hard, disappointing situation.

This is hard.
My heart hurts.
But I know that God is bigger than this.

(I had to wait 2 weeks to update this blog because a certain daughter of mine google herself and found that she was all over the internet... We told our kids tonight.)

Waiting Well.

Last Wednesday Jonathan had an MRI scan. Unfortunately, we were left with a lot of questions. Our doctor said our results were inconclusive and we would have to wait for another scan to know for sure what is going on. Pretty vague, I know.... Now you know how I feel. Our next scan is in the middle of August.

My two prayer request-
1. Clear scan in August.
2. That we wait well.

God is bigger than this and Jesus Can fix it.

Friday Favorites: Birthday, Crawfish, Private Time and Sex Talk.

1. Jonathan's Birthday
We celebrated Jonathan's birthday on Wednesday. We are always happy to celebrate him and another year together! 38 looks good on him! (I am much, much younger than him...)

2. Jonathan's Birthday Present
I told him to take today off so we could celebrate together all day long! We have a couple's massage this morning followed by a nap and lunch... The perfect day.

3. Private time
Henry asked if Daddy and I were going to have private time while they were at school? I asked him what he thought that meant and he said it's when we kiss. I asked him if that is all he knew about private time and he said, "You kiss and watch tv." I told him that was exactly right!

4. Sex Talk with a Kindergartener
Speaking of Private time. Henry asked why boys couldn't have babies in their stomachs. So we talked about God's design for a family and the roles that he designed for marriage and different body parts. It takes a mommy and a daddy to make a baby. "MAKE A BABY? What does that mean?...." I shut down the conversation very quickly after this question. My reasoning, Henry isn't ready to be respectful with the words erection or sperm.... He would just add those words to his list of potty words and I don't think I could stand hearing him jump on the trampoline saying butt- poop- diarrhea- erection- sperm- Disclaimer- I was very open and honest and technical with Lucy when we had this conversation in kindergarten.

5. Crawfish
We are gearing up for a little crawfish boil this weekend. Family. Crawfish. Dessert. Best day ever.

Enjoy your weekend!

Who did it?

We were invited to a murder mystery pirate party this past weekend! We loved getting dressed up and acting like fools with our friends. Jonathan was the ships surgeon and I was the local Jamaican voodoo lady (with accent). The Huffmans were excellent hosts and Julie thought of all the details for the night! We told her we were expecting another one soon...

 Aren't my friends pretty!?
There were four scenes to go through and with each section we ate a different course to the meal.

Julie said you can buy murder mystery parties off of etsy. This was such a fun group night and would make the best party for any age.

I hope y'all had a great weekend!

Family Favorite Reipe

I don't like to cook anymore. Mainly because my family complains about what I've made and they think it is appropriate to tell me that things look/taste/smell disgusting.... They all need spankings. So, I asked my friends what they made for dinner and I got some really great ideas.

This week started some new rules.
1. You aren't allowed to say that looks, taste, smells disgusting.
2. You must eat what is on your plate. (not all of it but they have to try it.

Side note- When I was a kid we sat at the dinner table as a family and passed around serving dishes and would have never told my mom that dinner was disgusting. (My mom is a really good cook, I can't remember a bad meal.) (Except one- one time she made spaghetti and instead of picking basil from the garden she picked mint.... and we ate it like it was totally normal....)

back to the rules...
3. Don't be a jerk. (I didn't say that to them...) Since no one else is volunteering to make and clean up dinner then they have no say in anything....

I compiled a list of meal ideas from my friends and was reassured that all kids are jerks when it comes to meal time, and we don't have to put up with it.

Here's the first recipe I tried- FLAT BREAD PIZZA

  • 1 Flat Bread Pizza Crust
  • 3 c. Mozzarella Cheese, divided
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (1 oz) package Ranch Dip Mix- I didn't have this so I poured ranch salad dressing in with my cream cheese until I liked the taste.
  • 8 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 lb cooked and cubed chicken
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In a small bowl cream together ranch mix and cream cheese. Spread over pizza crust
  3. Top cream cheese mixture with 2 c. mozzarella cheese. Top with chicken, bacon and the rest of your cheese.
  4. Back at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until pizza is golden brown.

My kids ate it. Lucy even said, "Mom, this looks real gross but taste so good!" She sure knows how to give the complements.

What do you guys feed your family?
(I really want to know your family favorite meals, comment below)

3 Things Friday

1. Eyebrow Powder
I went to ulta to buy some mascara. They had an eyebrow waxing booth in the front of the store. I decided I would pay someone to do my eyebrows instead of doing it myself. I'm glad I did. I asked the lady what she recommended to fill in eyebrows and she recommended this powder. AND I LOVE IT! The older I get the thinner my eyebrows get...

2. Sick Day
Henry was up all night Tuesday night/Monday morning with ear pain. This is the second time in 3 weeks that this has happened. I gave him drops, I gave him Tylenol. There was nothing I could do to ease his pain. Around 3:30, he sobbed, "Mom, God never takes care of me." I hugged him and said that God lets up go through hard and painful things so that we will rely on him. (No one likes that answer- btw..) Around 4:30, Henry yelled, "Yeah, my ear popped and I feel so much better! God does take care of me!"

I was relieved with his relief but I knew what the pop was... His ear drum perforated for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. We will go back to the ENT in a couple of weeks. Maybe even for a 3rd set of tubes...

3. I found a new podiatrist yesterday. He was not crazy. He doesn't want to hack off my toe. He knew exactly who I was talking about when I mentioned my past podiatry experience.

That's all I know. We have the day off from school today to attend Jesus' Funeral. Don't worry, Sunday HE IS RISEN. Just like he said he would. I find so much comfort knowing that God is exactly who he says he is.

God is bigger than this and Jesus can fix-it.

A comeback story....

I lost my toenail. Forreal it just fell off. First the top half. Then the bottom. I read that runners lose their toenails all the time. I'm not a runner but I'm active so I didn't worry. My mom saw it and told me to go to the Dr....

Over the past two years I have become an expert Dr. finder. I research, I ask friends, I ask other doctors- My family isn't going to just anyone. But for some reason I decided to just google Frisco Podiatrist and I called the first name that popped up. I called. Made an appointment and even better they could get me in two days later.

I walk into a small clinic. The receptionists was the Dr. He greeted me. He made jokes. I found it strange that we were the only two people in a small two room clinic. He examined my toe and decided it was infected. He then decided I needed X-rays to look at the bone of my toe. After x-rays, we went back to the exam room. And then I heard another man's voice, he was there 30 minutes early for his appointment with the Dr. The Dr. leaves and in walks this stranger into my exam room and says that he is with yelp. Do I want to be in a video? No, thank you. Is what I should had said... But I panicked and then he explained that he would just video me walking into the clinic and out, so I said ok.

Questions-
Why would a Dr. let a stranger walk into an exam room and talk to a patient?
Why hadn't the Dr. hired an actress?
What was he going to do if I wasn't there?
Why was he taking x-rays?
What is going on?

The Doctor was funny. But by the end of my appointment he determined I needed two procedures and a boot..... I left. Also, The yelp man actually videoed my entire appointment... I was so uncomfortable and asked him not to film my foot which I'm pretty sure he did...

I called my sister and said I just had the craziest appointment and I need all these procedures. We laughed about the yelp video and the Dr.

So that night I told Jonathan about my appointment. And he didn't laugh. He told me never to go back there. I said no it was funny. He told me I didn't need a funny Dr.

Here's the thing... Jonathan doesn't trust anyone and I trust everyone. So to prove to him that he was wrong and non trusting and I was right  I googled this Doctor by name.....

And apparently you can pay to get your name at the top of the google search because this Doctor had two successful clinics but they ended up closing because of Fraud and Identity theft....

So far my identity hasn't been stolen... but I'm probably going to be on this mans yelp video and/or a foot fetish porn site. If you find the video do not show it to me and we will never talk about it....

Moral of this story- Trust No one. Always get a Doctor Referral. Always say no to strangers who walk into your exam room.

Now you might be wondering why I told you this story... I'm not sure.
I needed a comeback story and that's all I had to work with.

I miss this space on the internet. Thank you all who have reached out. I was afraid that I ran out of things to say and God wasn't ever going to use me again. The more I worried about not being a vessel for Jesus the less I had to say.  But I was reminded that this little site is my memory keeper and my ministry. I can't say I have anything worth saying but I want you to see Jesus in our everyday. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Also, be on the lookout for sales.... cause I like to shop.
Thank you all who read here and encouraged me to come back.

God is bigger than this and Jesus Can fix it.

New Year, New goals.

Before writing out my new goals for the year I thought I would reflect on my goals for 2017. I just reread them and became quite disappointed with myself. Here's my goals from last year.

I want to surrender to Jesus every day. I want to wake to his presence and sleep in his calm. I want to read his word and hear his voice. I want to consult him on decisions within my home and family. I want to bring glory to God no matter the situation. I want him to pour out of me with all that I do and shine brightly through me to those who might be in the dark, on the fence, or brand new to JC. I'm going to print this out and put it on my mirror and make it my daily mantra for 2018.

I do have a few more goals for 2017...

2017 Goals

My word that I want to concentrate on this year is INVEST.

I want to invest myself in Jesus.
I want to invest in my marriage. (We are going to date more.)
I want to invest my time in my family.
I want to invest in my friendships.
I want to invest financially. (I have some saving goals...)
I want to invest in myself.  (I have to exercise the stress and my muffin top away)

Other Goals...

No hospital stays for 2017 (or ever but let's take it one day at a time...) WE DID IT! We did 2017 without one hospital visit! Wesley did have surgery for his leg but not until Jan. 2, 2018! WOOHOO!

2018 Goals...

Last year I chose a word to concentrate on, My word was invest and the only thing I did well was investing in a Financial planner....

This year my word to concentrate on is.... FOCUS.

I want to focus on Jesus and who he is and what he is teaching me and doing in my life.
I want  to focus on my marriage.
I want to focus on my family and how I am presenting Jesus to them - not just sharing the gospel but them seeing Jesus through me and my actions... and my words... and my patience...
I want to focus on my friendships. (Marco Polo App is a great way to visit with friends even whey busy)
I want to focus on saving.
I want to focus on myself.... Focus on health- spiritual, physical and mental.

Today I am focusing on Patience....

Because this dog is driving me crazy.

God is bigger than this and Jesus can fix it.

Friday Favorites: Sites on the internet

1. Marco Polo
This is an app that everyone needs to go download. It is video based messages. Like a text message but you leave a little video message. This is great for when you have a story to tell someone and it's too long to text and doesn't really warrant a phone call.... I group chat with my friends, my sisters, and anyone else I can recruit.

2. Art Hub
This is a youtube channel and Henry loves it! It's a dad who does step by step directions on how to draw your favorite characters. I gave Henry a notebook and he just draws and draws.

3. My eBay store...
I opened an eBay store. Basically henry won't wear anything that isn't athletic wear so I pulled everything out of his closet and put it on eBay. And once I saw how well that was selling, I put some of Lucy's clothes on eBay. And once I saw how well that was going I put some of my stuff on eBay. Then Jonathan's pre-cancer clothes. I'm having a blast listing and selling on eBay. My next step is to just list everything in my closet, why? I only like to wear 10 things in there why not get rid of the rest.

Also, you know how I love to thrift shop? Well now you can see some of my great finds at great prices... that you can buy.

4. Thredup...

If you aren't shopping thredup then you are missing out... I bought a pair of ray ban aviators for $10... New, excellent condition.

That's all I know.... Monday we can go over my new year resolutions.

15. We ended 2017 with a bang... We started 2018 with Wesley having his broken leg fixed. I now know how much an arm costs in the saying that will cost an arm and a leg...

Good Bye 2017!
